Verpackungslawine in der Kosmetik: Nachhaltigkeit als Lösung?

Packaging avalanche in cosmetics: sustainability as a solution?

Will the trend towards recycled packaging continue in the cosmetics industry?

__________________________

The beauty industry is facing a major challenge in terms of sustainability. From ingredients to manufacturing methods to packaging, products and brands are being closely scrutinized by consumers. More and more brands are recognizing the importance of recycled packaging and are focusing on sustainable options made from recycled cardboard, glass or recycled PET. But is this a temporary trend or a long-term change in the cosmetics industry? We take a look at the development and future of recycled packaging in this industry.

Recycled packaging - the beginning of a change

The cosmetics industry has long been criticized for using too much single-use plastic and non-recyclable materials. You've probably experienced this: face cream comes in a cardboard box wrapped in plastic, inside of which is a plastic jar with a lid. However, growing awareness of the environmental impact of these practices has led many companies to rethink and look for more sustainable alternatives.

Recycled packaging offers many benefits. It significantly reduces the need for new raw materials, conserves natural resources and reduces energy consumption during production. It also helps to reduce the amount of waste and plastic waste, which protects the oceans and ecosystems in the long term.

Sustainable packaging at Pure Elements Naturkosmetik

Since 2007, we at PURE ELEMENTS have been working on implementing a reusable deposit system for cosmetic products. Our goal is to combine high-quality skin care "Made in Germany" with a sustainable, plastic-reduced packaging concept. Our products are mainly filled in glass jars, shower and bath products in PET and aluminum (both recyclable).

Our lids are made of aluminum because:

  • Aluminium is very light, which leads to lower transport costs.
  • It can be recycled infinitely, making it the most recycled material in human history.
  • Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy compared to producing new aluminum.
  • The material is food safe.

Consumer demand: We want more sustainable beauty!

Another important factor for the success of recycled packaging in the cosmetics industry is the increasing consumer demand for sustainable products. More and more people are willing to invest in eco-friendly beauty products and support brands that are committed to the environment.

Temporary trend or lasting change?

The question remains: is the switch to recycled packaging in the cosmetics industry sustainable or just a passing trend? The signs indicate that sustainability in the cosmetics industry can no longer be ignored. Consumer demand for eco-friendly products will continue to grow and concerns about environmental impact remain.

Overall, we believe that recycled packaging in the cosmetics industry is more than just a passing trend. It is a necessary change to reduce the industry's environmental impact and meet the needs of consumers. Although there is still a lot of work to be done to establish fully sustainable practices, all indications are that recycled packaging is here to stay in the cosmetics industry and will hopefully continue to grow.

The packaging dilemma at Pure Elements

If you come across unusual packaging in our products, it is often recycled packaging from our suppliers. Should we throw it away or reuse it? This is not an easy question to answer. Does sustainability mean that we constantly buy new natural fillings or should we use what we already have? Even if it is plastic fillings, we believe that it is more sustainable to reuse the existing material. What do you think? Do you judge us for this decision or do you understand why you find this unusual filling in your order?
